SHANTIH SHANTIH SHANTIH
MESSAGE FOR NEPAL AND THE WORLD
In the heart of the mountains there is silence
As if the avalanche wrapped soft tissues in some other worldly dream
A single cry is numbed in the rubble of dust and debris
History’s magnificence is just a pale palimpsest on a cold blank slate
Marks and scratches that linger and die
Is memory a vagabond stranger in need for a home?
Are these stupas a reminder of the setting and the rising sun?
Is science a tool or a metaphysical thought that cannot understand the relation with nature?
Where’s the singing bowl? the collective hymn?
Where’s the song that you used to sing?
The night stood alone guarding the dead
Not even a star blinked amidst the drizzle
Awaiting the guardian of the dawn to ferry the souls
Far away across the event horizon
Only the first flower sends its kiss
Unfolding its petals in an ocean of bliss
Praying for the well being of its child
No one is blind
A line has passed
The light you see
Tears glistening like diamond in the lotus (Om Mani Padme Hum)
Not fearful, but, being free is thy happiness
Like eternal Bagmati river emanating from the mouth of the tiger
Ceaselessly flowing and purifying all
To that may the body tend itself
For the last drop of sacred waters
That brings absolution to the soul
Shantih Shantih Shantih
